Maker Dad: This book has a bunch of fun projects for Daddy-daughter maker sessions.  Since I have a daughter and she has a dad, I’m partial to this combo, but even if you’re the mom or grandma, this book has great ideas.  And it makes a great Father’s Day gift too!Maker Dad

Bartholomew and the Oobleck: I can’t leave off one of Dr. Seuss’s slightly lesser known books and name giver to an awesome chemistry wonder, oobleck.  Want to make a batch of the awesome non-Newtonian fluid?  Here’s a recipe.

Sometimes, successful learning is as much about the inspiration and process as it is about the subject.  What Do You Do with an Idea? and Rosie Revere, Engineer set out to inspire kids as they try something new.  Want to get the kids started? Try this Tinkering Station for Young Engineers inspired by Rosie. What Do You Do With An Idea?

Rosie Revere, Engineer Tinkerlab: A Hands on Guide for Little Inventors is one of my favorites.  I may be a little biased as Rachelle, the amazingly creative author, is a friend, but the content is sure to inspire your young makers.  You’ll find art, engineering, ways to inspire creativity and more.

The Art of Tinkering: If you’re looking for reasons to introduce tinkering to your kids, buy this one.  Written by the creative brains of San Francisco’s Exploratorium museum, this book is filled with the projects of 150+ people who merge art, science & engineering. Oh and even the cover of the book will help you tinker.  It’s printed in conductive ink.

Bedtime Math: This book is one of my favorites because it reminds us that anytime can be learning time.  You can make your kiddo’s next bedtime story a math problem without sacrificing any of the fun.

And here’s a bonus book for you…  The Curious Kid’s Science Book by Asia Citro.  You’ll have to pre-order it, but the book’s science teacher author Asia Citro sent me an advance copy and oh my… it’s amazing.  This will become your go to science fun and learning book with over 100 activities, each with extension ideas and real-life stories of how the kids learned with the activities.
