Frozen Inspired Glitter Slime

I hope y’all like Disney’s Frozen.  Because the next couple of weeks are going to be alllll icy around here.  My dear daughter just turned four and her party is filled with Frozen inspired activities.  But we decided to a add a little STEAM (Sci/Tech/Eng/Art/Math) spin.  First up is a little science, with Frozen Inspired Glitter Slime. And if you keep reading, you’ll find this week’s installment of the Love to Learn Linky, too.  This post contains affiliate links.

Enjoy some glittery, slippery, Elsa inspired fun with this easy to make Frozen glitter slime recipe.

What is Slime & Why is it Science?

Slime is a messy fun science lesson because when you combine glue and liquid starch together, you’re making a polymer.  The polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) found in glue combines with borate ions found in liquid starch, react and combine to create the polymer we know as slime. For another fun way to study polymers, check out Polymer Science 101: Homemade Fruit Gummies.

1.  Cover work surface with newspaper or other protective item.  No really, do it.  Glitter loves to embed into surfaces.

2.  Pour glue into a large bowl.  Add water and stir until combined.  Then add glitter and keep stirring until uniformly distributed.

3.  Add the liquid starch and mix until thick and slimy.  Then knead the slime with your hands and return to the starch mixture for another mixing.  This step is important because it makes sure there’s no unmixed glue hiding in the center of your slime ball.

4.  Slime too slimy?  Rinse it with water (do not pat dry with paper towels like I did!!!).  Slime too sticky?  Mix it with some more starch.  Slime too hard?  Add a little more glue.

5.  Store the slime in an airtight container or zipper bag for 1-2 months.

Frozen Slime is Great for Parties

We’re doing a slime bin at her party this weekend, plus I brought in a bunch of slime baggies for my daughter to give out as birthday favors at her preschool.  I used these little zipper bags, which hold just enough fun for each kiddo. One batch of slime fills about 7 of these bags.

My Love to Learn Linky blogging partners have some girls that love Frozen too.  Here are a couple activities that they did:

Free Frozen Learning Pack Printable from Totschooling

More from the Love to Learn Linky

There’s no real theme to this week’s Love to Learn features.  Why?  It’s not because I’m lazy, I swear.  It was because there were so many great ideas but they were so different I couldn’t figure out how to group them.  I just decided to highlight a few different ones instead of leaving something interesting off the list.

We’ve been spending a lot of time at the dentist lately.  Maybe we wouldn’t have if we’d done this Brush Away the Alphabet Germs activity from Growing Book by Book…

Go hunting for hearts on this Valentine Nature Hike from Fireflies + Mudpies.  You just might find something surprising.
