Paint Doctor

You haven’t seen much of me around Left Brain Craft Brain the past few weeks.  It was the holidays and all.  But the biggest reason I’ve been MIA is that the family has been laid out with pneumonia.  All three of us.  Luckily we’re now on the mend, but not before quite a few visits to the doctor.  I was so tired of sitting in those exam rooms that I started dreaming up new activities while we were waiting.  I hope you enjoy this silly little art project called Paint Doctor inspired by those exam rooms…  This post contains affiliate links.

A fun and easy painting project for kids inspired by the doctor's office. Perfect for when winter colds get you down.

Paint Doctor Supplies Needed

The paint “brushes” in this project are all things that the doctor uses in an exam.  Long cotton swabs, tongue depressors, covers for the ear scope.  Plus we rolled out the craft paper on the table so that it looked like an exam table.

I’ll be honest here.  I may not have acquired some of these items in the most honest of ways.  But they were just sitting there in the exam room in those glass jars waiting to be shared.  And we really were in there a long time…  Just in case your conscience gets the better of you, I’ve supplied some Amazon links for you to find stuff :)

Paint Doctor Art Project

Despite the pneumonia, The Babe was game for some painting.  She pretty much will paint any time, any place.  She was even into dressing up a bit so I dug up a blue shirt that kind of looks like scrubs.  She donned her gloves and got to work.  Painting that is.

The gloves were fun for a while, but soon the finger painting began in earnest.

This was definitely not an independent art project for The Babe.  I don’t know about you and your kiddos, but when my daughter is sick, she gets extra clingy and needs tons of hugs.  I think this was the day that she literally had to be touching me at all times because she felt so crappy.  So I got my paint on too…  It was a bit therapeutic for my pneumonia too!

Other Activities for When the Kids (Or You!) Are Sick

It’s tough when the kids are sick.  Their energy is low, their neediness high and often your energy is low too because you’ve been up all night with a pukey or coughy kid.  So keeping them entertained is tough…  When we’re tired of painting, we almost always pull out a big stack of books and snuggle on the couch for a marathon reading session.  Need a few new book ideas?  I love this list of Alphabet Books from You Clever Monkey.

  2. What a fun idea Anne! I have to admit I’ve considered scoffing some doctor’s stuff too for the same purposes! Too funny! Hope the babe is feeling better – totally know what you mean about the kids being clingy when they’re sick. Sometimes you just have to join em! Best, Sue

  3. Oh, too bad about the pneumonia. I hope you are all feeling better. It is great that you were able to be creative in the midst of all that illness.
