What You Need to Make Spooky Brain Halloween Cupcakes
These delicious cupcakes are easy to make with just a few ingredients, and one awesome brain mold. You can even re-purpose this mold for ice cubes and pretend play after your cupcake needs are over.
- 1 box of chocolate cake mix, any brand + ingredients
- 1 tub of chocolate frosting
- 3 packages of Wilton 12 oz Pink Candy Melts
- 24 black cupcake liners
- Wilton Red Sparkle Gel
- (3) 4ct silicone brain molds
How to Make Brain Cupcakes for Halloween
To make these cupcakes, start with a box of cake mix and some canned frosting. Or you could bake your favorite recipe from scratch, too. But I’m giving you an out, just in case you don’t have time for that!
Then it’s time to make your candy brains. And maybe eat one or two, zombie style. All you have to do is melt some pink candy melts and pour them into the brain mold. Then chill and pop them out. You’ll need one brain per cupcake, so adjust your quantities accordingly. And also plan ahead, because these brains can go into the fridge for a few days so you don’t have to scramble to make them the day of your party.
On the day you want to make your cupcakes (or the night before…), bake up your cupcakes and give them a decadent frosting with chocolate frosting.
Then top off the frosting with one of your brains and drizzle with some red gel icing for extra spooky goodness.

- 1 box of chocolate cake mix any brand + ingredients
- 1 tub of chocolate frosting
- 3 packages of Wilton 12 oz Pink Candy Melts
- 24 cupcake liners
- Wilton Red Sparkle Gel
- 3 4ct Brain Molds
Instructions
- Line two 12 count cupcake tins with cupcake liners.
- Combine the cake mix ingredients according to package and bake according to package directions.
- While the cupcakes are baking, begin making the candy brain. Pour 1 package of the Wilton pink candy melts into a microwave safe dish. Heat the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring occasionally until melted. Once melted fill each silicone brain mold about 3/4 full - one package of melted candy melts will make approximately (6) brains. Place the Silicone brain molds on a baking sheet and place in the fridge to set about 30 minutes. Repeat this process with the candy melts and brain molds. You may need to let the candies set, pop up and repeat the process until you get 24 candy brains.
- Once the candy is set, you will be able to pop the candy brains out.
- Once the cupcakes have cooled completely, generously frost each cupcake with chocolate frosting.
- Place a candy brain on top of each frosted cupcake.
- Squeeze the Wilton Sparkle Gel Over the top of the candy brains.
- Repeat with all cupcakes.
