If you’ve been following Left Brain Craft Brain at all, you know that at our house, we love playing with our food. So when it came time for our annual summer road trip to Lake Tahoe, I thought I’d put a different spin on our snacks. A silly, fun, yet challenging way to think about snacks. It’s a Summer Road Trip Engineering Challenge Snack.
Road Trip Engineering Challenge Snacks Recipe
- Twizzlers Strawberry Twists
- Twizzlers Cherry Bites
- Twizzlers Cherry Pull ‘N’ Peel
- Pretzel sticks
This snack is all about fun and your imagination. Grab some Twizzlers and some pretzel sticks and just start building and designing. Let your road trip fun be your guide. Going golfing? Build a golf club. Going biking? Build a wheel or even a full bike for extra credit. Stuck in the car on a long drive? Build the car, a cow, whatever! Trial and error is especially yummy in this engineering challenge.
Engineering Challenge at the Lake
First up on the trip was a trip to the beach. The water in Lake Tahoe is so coooold, but the sun is warm and we love hanging out there. For this challenge, we made boats out of Twizzler Pull ‘N’ Peels and pretzels. It was fun taking these perspective shots, trying to make it look like the boat was sailing on the lake.
Oh, and best part about Twizzlers at the beach? They don’t melt. So no bummed out family members when they find out their snack has oozed into the sand.
Have you ever tried ladder ball? My BIL and SIL were the first to introduce it to me. You toss a string with a ball on both ends over a ladder like frame. It’s a really fun game that we always play when we’re up in Tahoe. This time we played and built ladder ball :)
Summer Fun with Twizzlers
Guess what? I’m not the only one who did some silly yet totally fun things with Twizzlers this summer. Stop by Twizzlers Summer for some unique recipes, crafts and activities. Or, Twizzlers Pull ‘N’ Peel make a great after dinner conversation starter and treat. It was fun to watch the older set experience them for the first time at our family dinner.
One Stop Road Trip Shop
You know those frantic moments before a road trip where you’re panicking that you’ve forgotten something? Those tend to happen to me after I’ve left and after I can easily do something to fix it. The good news is that when you realize you’ve forgotten sunscreen, your bathing suit bottom and snacks for the beach, there’s a place you can go: Walmart. They’ve got it all, plus there’s one almost anywhere you need it, including along the 50 mile detour you have to take because of a forest fire (true story!).
Need Twizzlers? Head to the candy aisle. They have so many fun flavors, you won’t miss them.
